The Next Station

This play is acted out, while a tape is playing. The tape consists of sound effects from the Skytrain and the thoughts of our main character

Scene opens with several people sitting in a row , as if they were on a Skytrain car. Sound effects will play with the traditional ….bing , bing , bing of the doors closing. Our main character will run up at this time and starts to board. He mimes the doors opening and closing as he jumps on.

Glancing left and right he remains standing and holds onto a post. He begins to look around with more detail.

"..its probably just as well there's no seat….I'd have to squeeze in beside one of these people…"
He continues to look around trying to be non chalant about it.
"whoa that kid must have had a run in with a bleach bottle …..must be a surrey kid." …… no wonder I get nervous when I'm on public transit…..that guy in the sunglasses….. I think he's staring at me…I guess I'm paranoid too…. If he is staring at me though…. how can I look at him…without him thinking I'm staring at him…"
He slowly reaches into his pocket and slips out his own sunglasses and puts them on. Turning his gaze to the guy with the sunglasses.
"Mr. Cool….. oh yeah …thinks he's better than the rest of us….
Sound effects come on "the next station Metrotown" Our character struts down the aisle of the car and grabs hold of another post. Someone gets on and grabs the post he was holding. He takes off his sunglasses.
"whats with the guy with the microphone? Creating a greatest sounds of the skytrain disc. I can hear the adds now or your skytrain sounds now and for no extra cost we'll include rapid transit rock and seabus wave sounds.. I must be crazy…..these people really are no different than me….except maybe that guy…..and that girl over there…I'm scared of needles and she has stuck holes in various parts of her body for the fun of it…"
Sound effects come on "the next station Nelson Avenue Community Church" Everyone gets off but our main character and then as we hear the traditional ….bing , bing , bing of the doors closing. Our main character will jump out at this time.
