Stewardship

Scene opens with Marion and Andrew sitting in their favorite chairs. Andrew reading the paper, Marion looking through a dictionary
.

Marion: Andrew
Andrew: Yes Dear
Marion: Andrew, I was thinking we should start tithing
Andrew: That's nice dear
Marion: Andrew
Andrew: Yes Dear
Marion: Are you listening to me?
Andrew: Yes dear, you were thinking that you were teething.
Aren't you a little old for that?
Marion: Andrew, I said I was thinking we should start tithing.
Maybe we should even make up for lost time.
Andrew: Yes Dear, tithing as in tithe.
Marion: That's right. I wasn't sure what they meant by tithing at church last
week so I looked it up, it said that a tithe is a tenth part of one's annual income contributed, especially for the support of the clergy or church.
Andrew: Can we make it a baby tooth…I mean tithe.
Marion: (stares him down)
Andrew: That would be a no then?
Marion: That would be a no.
Andrew: So why should I give 10 percent of my annual income to the
church?
Marion: It was Gods to begin with.
Andrew: For God so loved the world that he gave, where does it say that
Andrew so loved the church that he gave?
Marion: Well it was Gods to begin with, and in fact it's still His. We're just
trusted to look after things while we're here.
Andrew: So I trust He won't mind if I keep it all.
Marion: Till when, are you getting a U Haul for your funeral?
Andrew: Memo to self, get a U Haul.
Marion: You're impossible.
Andrew: Look, it's not like we don't give. Every year we kind of look at
what we can spare and then give some of that.
Marion: Oh yes, God, why don't you come over for dinner,
we'll serve left overs.
Andrew: Ok I get your point, giving God what's left might not be the best,
but 10% isn't that a bit, well a bit much?
Marion: Not according to the Bible.
Andrew: I don't know if we have that kind of money in our family budget.
Do you think we could start off with less and build up to 10%?
Marion: Yes but, God wants us to be a cheerful giver, to give because we
want to give. I want us to give more, to give back to God part of
what he gave us.
Andrew: Would that be 10% of my net after tax income?
Marion: No, remember the left overs? We should look
for excuses to give more, not for excuses to give less.
Andrew: OK, so Gross income. I guess if it is Gods to begin with I should
be happy to give some back. I'm not sure if I'm cheerful, but I'm OK
with it.
Marion: Oh, I think dinners ready! (stands up to walk to kitchen)
Andrew: Great, I'm starving, what's for dinner?
Marion: Leftovers.
