The scene opens with taxicab driver reading a newspaper(the audience only sees the back of the paper and is unaware of course that it is a taxicab.) After a brief period, the cabbie quickly puts the paper down, and begins talking.
"Oh sorry all fares have to ride in the back. Front seats reserved.
Where can I take you? (looks over shoulder pauses while hearing silent reply) Minorou rink. Sure no problem. Did you have a nice flight? .
That's great. (a little longer pause while pretending to glance in rear view mirror several times) I hope I'm not out of line but you seem a little anxious. Oh I understand. It's important that we're there for our children. So you have a boy playing hockey? . Oh I've been there, done that. (pause again) I've been driving in this city for over twenty years now, you've got nothing to worry about. I'll have you there in time to see the start of your sons game. It'll be no problem. (Pause) . The front seat? Oh that's taken. ..its reserved for my father. taken? .. Well I like to leave it open to remind me that my heavenly father is always with me. No matter where I go, he's with me. Just like your son knows you will be there. I know my father will be there for me. (pause) Just around the next corner and we'll be there! (pause) $7.85 . Thanks very much, enjoy the game.( sits for a minute and watches fare walk away, looks down at the money) My first paying fare! I've been driving for twenty years now.
Today's my first day as a cab driver but I'm not with out experience. I've been taking my kids to hockey and basketball , baseball and soccer. First day as a pro and I take a dad to hockey. Dad's taxi driving to piano and gymnastics, guitar and lacrosse. I've been everywhere with my kids and I know my father has been everywhere with me. (reflective pause) you know I think I'll go watch a little of that kids game. (exit)
